- Hi to all, I have a question about a Zoltrix 14400 modem that I
- bought recently from a friend. My last modem was a 2400 Hayes clone, so when
- he sold me the modem, he explained me everything about compression and
- error corrections protocols, including the fact that the Zoltrix do not have
- MNP or v42bis protocols incorpored on the hardware, as the US Robotics.
- Since I use Procomm Plus 2.0, I don't have problems in using the
- modem because the program have the software drivers for the protocols. But
- it works only for common text connections. If I want to use some mosaic
- browser from my home using a SLIP connection, I can't use Procomm. So I got
- the twinsocket shareware packet driver, but it don't have any software driver
- to implement the protocols that the Procomm have. Since the phone lines in
- Brazil are quite noisy, I manage to do the connection, but the garbage on the
- line makes it impossible to do anything further.
- The question is, is there any package like twinsocket that implements
- the protocols in software? Or some other way to use a mosaic browser on a SLIP
- line, preferably using Procomm 2.0?
- I saw a commercial package called "RUMBA for the Internet" that provides
- several programs to access the net over a SLIP line, including Telnet, FTP,
- Mosaic etc. It also provides a packet driver, but it seens that it does not
- support software protocols too. Is there any good to purchase it?
- My knowledge about modems is quite limited, so if I'm saying anything
- wrong, sorry. If someone can help me, I'll be very grateful.
- If you have an answer, please send a email to my adress. Thanks in
- advance to all, and finally, SORRY for the bad english!!! :)
